DEMO, PALM DESERT, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- What if, instead of having to think of several different ways to phrase your search on the Web, all the reasonable variations could be intelligently and automatically presented to you? TextDigger, Inc. today announces Digger.com, a different kind of search tool that lets you control the semantics behind the search, merely by picking which words are relevant to your query.
“Everyone who searches the Web knows what it's like to re-type a query eight different ways - and you sometimes still don't get what you want,” said Tim Musgrove, CEO of TextDigger. “In Digger.com, we've developed a search tool that looks at the context and relationships of all the words in your query, and then gathers similar words which you probably need to include.”
For example, a user who searches for “electric car engineering” is likely to receive “electric vehicle technology” as a recommendation out of many similar combinations. Digger.com automatically searches on its best initial guess, but with a couple of mouse clicks, you can easily redirect or refocus its decisions. If Digger.com doesn't know a word, a particular meaning of a word or assumes that you meant something else, you can teach the system by imparting your own ratings and knowledge so that it'll do a better job next time.
TextDigger's unique technology landed it among the select few demonstrators at the DEMO 07 conference, where the company is announcing the Digger.com search service today. DEMO is the technology sector's foremost launch venue for new products, services and companies. A screening of several hundred entries yields the introduction of only the most innovative new technologies at the show.
"Next-generation search is a hot topic, but DEMO is interested in search - not because it's trendy - but because real and valuable breakthroughs are needed to improve information retrieval," said Chris Shipley, DEMO's executive producer. "Digger takes an elegant approach to handling the different words, nuance, and meaning of a search query to help you find the results you're looking for. It tackles the most difficult aspect of searching by letting you see and control all the related words that grasp your query's meaning. It is really a beautiful solution.”
Digger.com begins its private beta today and is expected to enter a public beta in the second half of 2007.
